Canada "Eh" to "Zed"

Canada “Eh” (A) to “Zed” (Z) is an international summer program that provides students with the opportunity to experience campus life at one of Canada’s top universities.
The program combines professional development, English and cultural studies with time for exploration, relaxation and fun! Three weeks in one of Canada’s most energetic festival cities may inspire future study and career options!

Week One: Global Leadership Workshop
Facilitated by Dr. Richard Field, a Professor of Strategic Management and Organization with the Alberta School of Business, this workshop emphasizes leadership, intercultural behavior, communication, and working in teams. There will be a focus on skill building for students thinking of future studies in Canada.
Dr. Field will be assisted by his Masters and PhD Students from the Alberta School of Business.

Week Two: Bilingual Canada
Explore Canada’s two official languages: English and French.
The English session will focus on slang and common Canadian English expressions. Students will also have the opportunity to have a Statement of Purpose outlining their research interests critiqued by a qualified English instructor. Statement of Purpose documents are normally submitted when applying to graduate studies in North America.
(6 contact hours = 2 hours per day for 3 days)
The French session will introduce students to Quebecois (Canadian) French and Franco-Albertan culture and will include a tour of the University of Alberta’s Campus Saint Jean which is located in the heart of Edmonton’s francophone community.

Week Three: Creative Communication through Drama
This invigorating and interactive workshop is designed to give students confidence communicating in English and to reinforce English as a living language. This is a unique approach to language studies and is intended to create a fun and active and relaxed learning environment.
(8 contact hours = 2 hours per day for 4 days)
Canadian Rockies Trip July 6 – July 8
The two and a half day Canadian Rockies trip offers the opportunity to experience Canadian nature in Canada’s oldest national park. Enjoy and explore the breathtaking scenery and beauty of Banff National Park. Transportation, accommodation, meals and activities such as canoeing, the Banff Gondola, and Banff Upper Hot Springs will be included. Participants will also have free time for hiking or exploring the Town of Banff on their own.
Each of the three weeks will include a smattering of lectures by faculty members (3 contact hours), research lab tours, field trips and summer activities. Students can request meetings with professors in their field of interest and can explore graduate program options.
Eligibility
The program is open to cohorts of students or individuals currently registered in a degree program at a designated university. All participants are required to sign a Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement in order to participate in the program. More information about this agreement will be available at the time of registration.
Academic Credit Transfer Information
The academic program will consist of 32 contact hours. A letter of participation confirming actual contact hours will be presented to each participant.
Accommodation
Students will stay on campus and will be housed with 2 students in a room. The residence has internet access and laundry facilities.
Costs
The program fee of $3000 CDN includes:
- 13-day academic program (instruction, arrangements and administrative support)
- Airport pickup and drop off
- Accommodation: occupancy will be 2 students per room
- A daily breakfast allowance
- Field trips and activities
- Canadian Rockies Trip (2 nights)
Cohort Discounts
For 8 to 14 students from the same university the program fee is $2800.
For 15 or more students from the same university the program fee is $2600.
Note: Full payment of $3000 will be required to complete the online registration.
Cohort discounts of $200 or $400 will be refunded to the credit card used to pay the fee by May 14, 2012.
The program will be cancelled if there are fewer than 15 registrations by April 23. Full refunds will be issued at that time.
